Labor Day Adventures!

Soon it will be that time of year where the kids are back in school, the white shoes are tucked away, and the temperatures will begin to cool. With Labor Day right around the corner we want to help you squeeze in one more summer adventure. Here are some great places to pitch a tent and get some fresh air, maybe even get those white shoes a little dirty.

Joshua Tree National Park

Sleep under the stars and enjoy some of the darkest night skies in Southern California. With 9 different campgrounds offering about 500 developed campsites, Joshua Tree offers options for individual travelers, families, and large groups. Most campgrounds are first-come, first-serve throughout the year. Reservations are available for Black Rock and Indian Cove campgrounds during the busy season from October through May.

Death Valley National Park

In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Yet, each extreme has a striking contrast. Towering peaks are frosted with winter snow. Rare rainstorms bring vast fields of wildflowers. Lush oases harbor tiny fish and refuge for wildlife and humans. Despite its morbid name, a great diversity of life survives in Death Valley.

Wheeler Gorge Campground

The Wheeler Gorge Campground is located off Highway 33, north of Ojai. The roads are paved and the vegetation is a mix of trees and chaparral. The north fork of the Matilija Creek runs through the campground. The campground is open year round.

Green Valley Campground

Green Valley Campground is located near Arrowbear in the San Bernardino National Forest in Southern California. It is centered between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, providing ample recreational opportunities in the area’s pine-covered mountains. Green Valley Lake, known for its exceptional trout fishing, is located about a mile from this beautiful mountain campground.

South Carlsbad State Beach extends from Palomar Airport Road to La Costa Ave. Unlike Carlsbad State Beach to the north, this beach has few amenities, except for the campgrounds, and is rather remote. Popular activities include swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing and picnicking, and sunbathing. Good quality sand makes this beach ideal for walking and jogging.
