What is Mercedes-Benz KEYLESS GO®?
Available for models like the A-Class Sedan and GLC SUV, the Mercedes-Benz KEYLESS GO® system offers a convenient, hassle-free alternative to rummaging through your bag or pocket for your keys. What is KEYLESS GO®, exactly? It’s basically an upgraded version of KEYLESS START® and allows you to do the following:
- Start the engine by pressing the brake pedal
- Start the engine by pressing the dash-mounted button
- Unlock/lock your door by touching the handle

Don’t jumble around digging for your car keys. With the Mercedes-Benz KEYLESS GO® feature, you don’t have to.
Hello, I’m Jeff Moon, Service Drive Technician, and today I want to show you a quick and simple feature with your SmartKey®, so you don’t have to dig it out of your purse or pocket. With Mercedes-Benz KEYLESS GO®, you can unlock, lock, start, and stop your car or even close your windows and sunroof from the outside of your vehicle, simply by having your SmartKey® in the immediate vicinity of your Mercedes-Benz.
To unlock your car, firmly grip the driver’s door handle. To unlock all doors, grab any of the passenger handles. If your button is in place, each press is like turning the key one position as long as you don’t press on the brake. With one touch, you can turn on your vehicle’s accessories, such as the radio. Press the button a second time and the dash lights and all electrical items will turn on. Press a third time with your foot off the brake and everything turns off. You can also turn all features off by opening your door. If you want to lock your vehicle from the outside, simply touch the sensor located on the door handle.
Forget to close the windows and sunroof? No problem! Keep your finger on the sensor until the windows finish closing.

Nice, didn’t know about the window roll up
My vehicle is a 2011, so I guess this doesn’t apply
to my car. Honestly, I don’t see a need for this
feature, but I’m from the generation that does things for themselves
Interesting concept though. Appreciate the info.
Hi, is there a way to turn the car remotely to let it warm up, also to let the ac to cool the car down before i get in?
Hi Barron,
I hope you are enjoying your Mercedes-Benz E 250. I read your message asking about remote start. In 2014 this was not an option, however you can remotely lock and unlock your doors and several other features from your phone using your Mbrace system. To sign up for Mbrace and to get more information about it, push the “i” button near your rear-view mirror, and your car will call Mbrace. We can also walk you through it and get your car washed if you want to stop by.
Most Sincerely,

Very helpful. keep these emails coming! I wasn’t aware of the window closing feature.
The email/promo says you can start and stop your car from OUTSIDE the car. Capitalized just like that. How is this done? I have 2016 SL550.
Hi Brian,
The remote start feature is part of the Mercedes-Me app and uses Mbrace. We would be happy to help you set it up. Please call (949) 718-3000 and ask for a delivery specialist.

OMG – I love Jeff!
His unpretentious, slightly awkward at times but endearing delivery, made me smile and love this tutorial even more!
Jeff should do ALL your videos!
Let’s say someone is following you in the parking lot. You jump into the car for protection. How can the doors be locked quickly with the key inside the car to keep me safe?
Hi Keith,
You could lock the doors from inside by using the lock button on the key or the door. The doors can also be programed to automatically lock once your car hits 5 miles per hour.

My 2010 E350 w/ Keyless Go does all the described actions so I would think that your ’11 should as well – as you suggest I don’t use all of the features except for keyless lock/unlock which is great when hauling passengers or approaching leaving the car from rear or passenger side 🙂
Hi Jeff,
Thank you for reading and following our blog. We appreciate your assistance in addressing Nancy’s comment below. Please let us know if there are any features that you would like us to cover next.
Your email is very timely as I needed to roll up windows and close the sunroof on my 2017 GLA today when I got to work. My old station wagon key fob would close everything (and I didn’t need to hold the button). One click and I could walk away.
Need instruction on how to operate my E350 (2014) rear window sunshade. Thank you.
Hi Susan,
There is a button with a rectangle and some horizontal lines running through it, in the center of your dashboard under the air vents. If you push that button it will raise or lower your sunshade. Please call me at (949) 718-3015 and I would be happy to help.
Most Sincerely,

Great info on the rear window sunshade. Thank you so much.
I am in the process of integrating my garage door opener . The operator’s manual says that I need to turn the smart key to position 2 in the ignition lock. I could only find a button that says: Engine Start/Stop. Where is the ignition lock?
Hi Susan,
The start stop button can be pulled out and will expose the ignition lock. The easiest way to program the Homelink System is to leave the start button in, and just start the car. Please give me a call at (949) 718-3015 and I can walk you through the whole process and make it easy for you.
Most Sincerely,

Hi Scott,
Thank you so much for all your help.

what year did Mercedes start offering the keyless go feature?
Hi Garry! Our first car to have KEYLESS-GO was the 1998 S-Class, known internally as the W220. After the 1998 S Class, Mercedes-Benz began offering KEYLESS-GO on other models as optional equipment.
Today my E350 2014 showed this message: Auxiliary battery malfunction. My car is still under warranty for another year and a half. Does it cover the replacement of the battery? and is it safe to drive until I have this fixed?
Hello Susan. A Service Coordinator will be reaching out to you with further information. Thank you!
He was not able to reach me but left a message.
Per his recommendation, I took my car to the nearest Mercedes Benz dealer in San Diego yesterday.
Problem solved. Thanks a million.l
After driving my car for 30 minutes, a message appeared: Pre Safe functions limited See Operator’s manual.
What does this mean? Should I take it to the dealer?
Hi Susan, one of our Service Coordinators, Erika will be reaching out to you via e-mail to review your concern. You may also reach out to her directly at (949) 718-6507. Thank you!
