Turbo Engine Power

The 188-hp 2.0L inline-4 A-Class engine combines turbocharging with numerous advances to deliver more power from less fuel. Its rapid-multispark ignition and high-pressure Direct Injection can fine-tune themselves in milliseconds. Its twin-scroll turbo and CAMTRONIC variable valve lift help keep all 221 lb-ft of torque on tap from just 1,250 rpm. Clever CONICSHAPE cylinders slash friction to help reduce wear and fuel consumption. And a particulate filter helps make its emissions even cleaner. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class performance is not only powerful but fast as well, with the ability to go from a standstill to 60 mph in just 7.1 seconds.

Fuel-Saving Technology

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class engines not only are powerful but efficient as well, thanks to ECO Start® technology. An ECO Start® system automatically shuts off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations, to save fuel and reduce emissions. As soon as the driver lifts off the brake, the engine instantly restarts, for immediate acceleration response. The ECO Start® system can also be shut off by the driver at any time.

Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission

Paired with the A-Class engine, the racing-inspired 7-speed transmission combines the sporty response of a manual, the smooth refinement of an automatic, and better efficiency than either. Dual clutches offer quicker gear changes than a human can shift a traditional manual gearbox, while three overdrive ratios boost highway efficiency. DYNAMIC SELECT® offers selectable ECO, Sport, and Comfort modes that let you favor fully automatic efficiency and comfort, intensified response, or experience shift-for-yourself excitement via the steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.

Front-Wheel Drive

The A-Class front-wheel drive system is an ideal match for its nimble handling and efficient packaging. Impeccable calibration of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Electronic Traction System (ETS) enhances tire bite under hard acceleration, while equal-length driveshafts virtually eliminate undesirable torque steer.

4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A 220 4MATIC® comes with 4MATIC®. The luxury brand’s advanced lightweight system enhances traction and handling on Orange County roads. 4MATIC® works by offering variable torque distribution to the front and rear axles and by constantly monitoring for wheel slip. If wheel slip or change in driving conditions is detected, 4MATIC® can send up to 50 percent of the engine’s torque output instantly to the rear wheels.
