Mercedes-Benz Brakes and Rotor Repair

Service Tech

Brake rotors are a crucial component of your Mercedes-Benz vehicle’s braking system. A brake rotor is a metal disc that attaches to the wheel hub, where it uses friction from the brake pads to bring you to a stop in Irvine. When your brake rotors are warped or worn out, you don’t have full stopping power. Fortunately, you can get trusted brakes and rotor repair at the Fletcher Jones Motorcars service center. How often do you need brakes and rotor repair near Costa Mesa, and what’s included in the service? Read on to learn more with us.

What Does an Engine Air Filter Do?

Over time, the friction caused by contact with the brake pads causes the brake rotors to warp or wear out. Often, you’ll notice that the rotor wear occurs in the shape of the brake pad. If there is debris under the brake pads, corrosion, or if the rotors are made of a softer metal than the pads, these can also create grooves in the rotors.

When you visit Fletcher Jones Motorcars for brakes and rotor repair near Huntington Beach, we’ll inspect your rotors and recommend rotor repair or a full replacement, based on the following criteria:

  • In the case of mild wear, a basic rotor repair may suffice. This would involve resurfacing the brake rotors to get rid of the grooves created by the brake pads. You can resurface the brake rotors once or sometimes twice to extend their life.
  • When the brake rotors get too thin, they can no longer be resurfaced and will need to be replaced.

How Often Do You Need Brakes and Rotor Repair?

Rotor repair is usually needed less often than other brake services. Most Laguna Beach drivers will need rotor repair after 30,000 to 70,000 miles. Here are the warning signs when you need brakes and rotor repair:

  • Screeching sound – You may hear an unpleasant “metal on metal” sound indicating that the brake pads have worn down completely and the calipers are making contact with the brake rotors, resulting in deep grooves.
  • Squeaky brakes – Sometimes, brake pad material transfers to the rotor, resulting in squeaky brakes.
  • Shaky braking – If you feel vibration when braking, it might mean the brake rotors are warped.
