Mercedes-Benz Streamlines 2012 SL-Class Lineup

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class roadster is a classic car design that allows drivers to enjoy the sun, moon, and stars or take refuge from the elements. It looks fast and drives even faster. Over the past couple of years, the luxury automaker hasn't deemed it necessary to significantly change the SL-Class. The automaker and drivers alike were happy with the roadster as it was.

But as we both know: There's a fine line between perfection and boring. The former can slowly, or abruptly, evolve into the latter. And, in classic form, Mercedes-Benz has recognized that it's time to change up the SL-Class...They're not being very subtle about it, either.

We'll start with what might be perceived as potentially bad news, first. Mercedes-Benz is dropping its remaining V-12  SL-Class, the SL65, from its 2012 model -year lineup. You might remember, last year, Mercedes-Benz dropped the SL600 from the 2011 model-year lineup.

This obviously begs the question: Is the decision to stop production of V-12 SL-Class models permanent or merely temporary? Considering the outgoing Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG puts out 604 horsepower and 740 lb.-ft. of torque, we are secretly vying that at least one remains in the ranks - even if it's a special edition.

The good news, though, is that Mercedes-Benz is thought to be making room for a next-generation SL-Class model expected to launch in 2012 as a 2013 model... As we said, they're definitely keeping it interesting. Be sure to stay tuned to learn more about the next-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class model. Fletcher Jones Motorcars, located at 3300 Jamboree Road, Newport Beach, CA, promises more details, coming soon.
